There are now 7 Ukrainians (including children) living in Blackheath and quite a few others in the surrounding villages. On the evening of Wednesday 1 June, there will be a fundraising event at the cricket club, to which all club members and local residents are invited, to meet our Ukrainian guests, enjoy a traditional Ukrainian meal which they will prepare for us, and then watch Scotland take on Ukraine in the play-offs for the World Cup Final on the club's big TV. The match promises to be an emotional occasion: see BBC report.
The bar will open at 6.30pm and the meal will be served from 7pm onwards, before the match kicks off at 7.45pm. On the menu will be various traditional Ukrainian dishes including Holubtsy, Deruny and of course Borsch: scroll all the way down to see the illustrated menu below. Some of us have already sampled some of the dishes and can vouch that they are delicious!
Tickets are £10 each with all ticket proceeds going to charities supporting Ukrainian refugees. Just 40 tickets are available on a first come first served basis, at this link: Ukraine fundraiser. Please book your tickets and come along!
